Twitter For Android Receives Major Update
Any Twitter for android users will be happy to hear that today, July 13, 2011, Twitter officially released the Twitter for Android app version 2.1.0, which allows multiple accounts and push notifications.
The Official Twitter accounted tweeted about 5 hrs ago as I write this, that the new release was available.
According to the Twitter blog, they say: “It includes some of the most commonly requested features from our users.” These new features include:
Multiple Accounts
iPhone users have had the luxury for awhile to manage multiple accounts on one application, removing the annoying necessity of having to logout and re-login as a different user. Now Android users can say the same.
Push Notifications
The new 2.1.0 update also adds push notifications (which is also already available to iPhone users), which alerts users to active updates from Twitter, even if the user is using a different application. There is an “Automatic Refresh” option in the Twitter application settings that will let the user select the what type (Direct Messages, @Mentions, and Tweets) of updates they want to receive.
Also included are some minor bug fixes, and an updated appearance of the application’s home screen. At last, this long awaited Android feature is finally here! So what are you waiting for?
